Kristoffer Polaha and Marisol Nichols look at each other during a scene of "We Wish You A Married Christmas" movie

My Review:

I really enjoyed this movie. It has a little more serious undertone than usual, what with a marriage on the rocks, but this was still a super fun movie to watch!

Plot

Robby (Polaha) and Becca (Nichols) are in couples counseling and it’s not going well. They are also remodeling their apartment and can’t be in the apartment for the next week, which is Christmas. The therapist suggests they visit a little town called Gracious, Vermont, and spend some time together.

They go to Gracious, their car gets smooshed under a falling huge decoration, and they are forced to spend some time together. They grow closer and then back off. And then closer and then back off. All the while, you can see they really still love each other, and in the end, it all works out.

They realize they have to put their relationship first and put in the work, and they end together and happy and ready to celebrate Christmas!

Actors

Kristoffer Polaha and Marisol Nichols star in this film and they made for a great on-screen couple. Kristoffer Polaha is my #1 favorite Hallmark leading man of all time and I adore anything that he’s in, and this was no different!

Marisol Nichols is newer to Hallmark and has starred in 2 Christmas movies in the past two years, “Holly & Ivy” in 2020 and “Christmas CEO” in 2021. I thought she was wonderful in both and I loved her in this movie as well!

The Bottom Line

I truly enjoyed this movie! It’s a good reminder to stop and pay attention to the little things in your life and to always make time for your partner. It’s a sweet love story and I loved the supporting characters in the town of Gracious! So much fun!!

Hot Takes!

Here’s a quick look at what the Deck The Hallmark Podcast Fellas thought about his movie:

  • Bran – “The Christmas (decor) is next-level awesome in this movie. I loved this movie and I thought it was really great. Anytime Kristoffer Polaha gets to do his thing is awesome. Kris Polaha + Christmas is always going to be a good time for Bran.
  • Brian – “This was phenomenal. Kristoffer and Marisol together were awesome. The decorations were beautiful and the scenes were awesome.”
  • Dan – “The opening sequence of this movie is fantastic, and then after that five minutes, it’s a slippery slope the rest of the movie. The movie has two great performances from the actors. To try to make this serious movie whimsical and silly undermines everything they do right in this movie. Kris Polaha is amazing and so is Marisol Nichols.”
  • Alonzo – “Arguing-married-couple-remembers-why-they-fell-in-love is one of my favorite genres of movies. And you do get dollops of that in this movie. These two actors are so good that they elevate a film that would have benefited from a few more drafts of the script. There are some elements that don’t fit together in this movie. I would like to have seen them really nail it and I don’t think they did.”
  • Jacks – “I really liked this movie, I’ve definitely got some feels. I thought this was a really special movie.”

Interviews

The Deck The Hallmark fellas have interviewed Kristoffer Polaha a number of times! See below for links to interviews!

Location, Location, Location

“We Wish You A Married Christmas” was set in the fictional town of Gracious, Vermont. It was actually filmed outside Winnipeg, Canada. And it was filmed in May and June of 2022, so sadly, the snow, nor the cold, is real. All the filming locations did look super fun and cute though, so we’ll add that location to the bucket travel list!

‘We Wish You a Married Christmas’ was filmed entirely in Manitoba, specifically in Winnipeg, Carman, Gimli, and Grosse Isle.

Movie Must Haves:

There were a couple of items in this movie that I just ADORED! I went online shopping until I found some items that were similar, if not the exact same thing! So, if you had the same envy I did, here’s where you can find some of the great items seen in the movie!

I adored this argyle sweater that Marisol Nichols wore in this scene in the movie! It’s perfect for Christmastime but would work the rest of the cold months, too!

I love this gray wool coat that Kristoffer Polaha wears in this movie! It’s dressy but works as a casual coat as well! This one is very, very similar and very budget-friendly!

I couldn’t find the green ugly Christmas sweater in the picture. But I found one that’s almost as awesome, is a smidge more low-key, and it’s one that I know my husband would actually wear!

I love the camel-colored wool coat that Marisol Nichols wears at the Christmas market. It’s such a beautiful color and would work for casual or dressy outfits alike! This one is very similar!

I love the scarf Kristoffer Polaha wears in this scene. This one is pretty close and looks so cozy and warm! And it comes in a lot of colors!

When Marisol Nichols gets dressed up in the black dress she has on a gorgeous gold medallion necklace. I couldn’t find the exact one, but this one is super close!

The decorated garland around all the doorways and cabinets is just gorgeous in the movie! This garland comes decorated exactly like in the movie!

These white metal serving trays with all the goodies on them are so cute! This tray set is super similar and super affordable at the same time. And oh so cute!

Fun Film Facts

It looks like a ton of the nighttime shots in this movie were shot in the literal middle of the night! Marisol Nichols posted a few times on Instagram that they were filming at 3am.

I really enjoyed this movie. I LOVE Kristoffer Polaha and adore any Hallmark movie he’s ever been in, and this one was no different. It was a little bit of a different spin on a tried and true plot device and I thought it was great! We have a ton more Christmas movies to go, but this is such a strong start from Hallmark that I’m super excited to see what else is coming in the 2022 Countdown to Christmas! Let me know what you think when you watch this movie! Until then, Happy Hallmarking!
