The Wedding Cottage Movie Review

Here we are in the middle of Hallmark’s Spring Into Love season! So far the movies in this collection have been fantastic, so let’s jump right into “The Wedding Cottage” movie review! With Erin Krakow and Brendan Penny, it’d be hard to go wrong with this movie!

Spring is in the air and it’s Hallmark’s Spring Into Love season! I adore the Spring into Love movies. Spring is such a magical time and it feels like everything is refreshed and in bloom once again! This week’s movie is “The Wedding Cottage” and if I’m being honest, it’s been the movie I was most excited to watch in this year’s Spring Into Love lineup. I adore both the lead actors and I have been counting down the days till this movie premiered! Let’s dive into the review and see what we all think about it!

My Review:

This movie was worth the wait. I adored this movie. I loved the two lead actors, Erin Krakow coupled with Brendan Penny is an absolute triumph. And WOWZA the chemistry those two had together on screen! Whew!

Vanessa just published a new book all about planning weddings, and as a fun giveaway to drive sales, she’s giving away a dream wedding! And the couple that wins wants to get married at “The Wedding Cottage” in Vermont. Unfortunately, the cottage has shut down.

At the same time, Evan is a reclusive artist that’s suffering from a block on making new sculptures. He inherited the cottage from his grandparents and has closed it down for the wedding business.

Vanessa travels to Vermont to convince Evan to let her fix up the cottage and throw one more wedding there to fulfill the dreams of the winning couple. Basically, she begs him to let her fix the cottage up at her own expense.

Once Evan and Vanessa start to work together, of course, they begin to fall for each other. They have a big misunderstanding to overcome and then ultimately decide to be together and keep the wedding cottage open, running it together!

Erin Krakow is a Hallmark favorite and you can most often see her in the Hallmark series, “When Calls The Heart”, which is about to come back in July for season 10! Brendan Penny is also a Hallmark favorite, has been in a ton of Hallmark movies, and also was a star on their now-ended show, “Chesapeake Shores“.

The Bottom Line

To sum up, I loved this movie. The cottage is wonderful. I loved the scenery. Give me a dozen more Brendan Penny and Erin Krakow movies. They were adorable together. This movie made my heart smile and I was thoroughly entertained for the entire movie.

Hot Takes!

Here’s a quick look at what the Deck The Hallmark Podcast Fellas thought about his movie:

  • Bran – Bran was sick and was not able to appear on this episode. Alonso Duralde filled in!
  • Alonso – “I was stunned, this might be one of my top handful of Hallmark non-Christmas movies! I really liked the fact that Hallmark 2.0 is taking us to the place (while staying TV-G) of what it looks like between two grown-ups falling in love. I thought it worked really well. This is a genuinely charming rom-com.”
  • Brian – “This one ranked pretty high for me. It’s up in my top handful for sure. I felt like they did a good job with the military story.”
  • Dan – “This is a really generic Hallmark movie but the cast elevates it so much. Brendan Penny and Erin Krakow are great together in this movie. It’s definitely better than most of what we’ve watched this year.”

Location, Location, Location

“The Wedding Cottage” was filmed in Langley, British Columbia. And it is just GORGEOUS scenery. Langley is right outside of Vancouver, and is a popular location for lots of Hallmark shoots, including a ton of scenes from the ever-popular, long-running series, “When Calls The Heart”.

The cottage used for the set of "The Wedding Cottage" movie.

The actual cottage is also in Langley, British Columbia, and it’s called Foxglove Cottage. If it looks familiar to you, that’s because a TON of movies have been filmed around this cottage! Here’s a list of just some of the movies! And why wouldn’t you want to film here? It’s GORGEOUS! I’m putting it on my travel list to visit as soon as possible!

Fun Film Facts

Fun Fact #1

This movie is based on a book called “A Waterfront Wedding” by Leigh Duncan. I definitely just added it to my “To Be Read” list!

Fun Fact #2

In all their years at Hallmark, this is the first time that Brendan Penny and Erin Krakow have ever been paired up for a movie. Let’s hope it’s not the last time!

Music from “The Wedding Cottage”

I don’t know about you, but I adored the first dance song for Amy and Scott, the couple getting married in “The Wedding Cottage” movie. This is the song that the couples slow danced to at the dance lesson and again at the wedding.

In case you are looking for it, it’s called “You Are The Reason” by Callum Scott. I’m a HUGE fan of this song, and of Callum Scott’s music overall. I hope you enjoy it!

Spring Into Love is well underway, and I’m loving it. The first few movies of the season have been wonderful, and I adored this movie. Hopefully, the next few weeks of movies are just as good! I love a good spring, cottage, wedding-planning, stubborn cottage owner, small-town love story and this movie hits all the high notes. I can’t wait to hear what you think of this movie.
