My Review:

I was so excited for a new Christmas movie, that I’m pretty sure I would have loved just about anything Hallmark put out this July. However, this was a great movie and I loved it! This was a great movie! I loved the characters. I loved the storyline. It was a little bit of a different story than the usual Christmas stories. Hey, you can only make so many Christmas movies before you start to recycle the plots here and there.

I really liked how this movie actually took place over a couple of years in the characters’ lives. It was great that the story moved on each year as time passed and the characters and relationships progressed along with time. I adored them doing their video chats. It was perfect that every little thing didn’t always just fall into place. I think it was good writing that sometimes things didn’t go as planned and plans had to change.

Also as a side note, I love that they showed Taylor’s (Kayla Wallace) character working hard and progressing in her career as a side story. She was moving her way up the ranks as a writer for an online publication and kept moving up the ladder of success as time went on. I really loved what the editor read out loud as Taylor’s articles she had written. The writers of this movie did a beautiful job with that part of the script for sure.

I was a big fan of this movie! Yay for Christmas movies in July, and yay that it’s not that long until the big crop of Christmas movies will be here in October!

Location, Location, Location

“My Grown Up Christmas List” was filmed in Ottawa, Ontario in Canada in November/December 2021. It looks SO cold in some of the shots! Especially in the outdoor wedding scene! I’m pretty sure the good majority of that snow was real in this movie! According to Weather.com, the average temperature in Ottawa in December is around a high of 25* for the HIGH. Whew, that’s chilly!

Fun Film Facts

At the time of press in July of 2022, Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace are a dating couple in real life! How fun is that? They are both on “When Calls The Heart” and also starred together in “Chasing Butterflies” in the Hallmark Spring 2022 movies. I think they are absolutely adorable together and the on-camera chemistry is fantastic! I just love it when the characters are together in real life!
