My Review:

This was actually a really good movie. I enjoy the mysteries a lot and this one kept us on our toes for sure. The leads were fantastic together and I thought they had really good chemistry!

Plot

Lauren is an American psychologist who specializes in fashion trends, and she’s hired to help a French designer who’s having severe panic attacks. Her friend Charlotte who brought her to Paris suddenly becomes the prime suspect in the murder of Gerard, an employee in the fashion house. Lauren teams up with the detective on the case, Andre, to try to clear Charlotte’s name.

Lauren takes it upon herself to investigate (and trample on a few police crime scenes along the way…) and ends up running straight into the murderer. Also, COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT THE RATS IN THE WAREHOUSE. My gosh my skin is still crawling.

There’s a lot of searching and not following police rules, but Lauren ends up solving the mystery and finds the real killer!

Actors

Brook D’Orsay and Gilles Marini star in this movie and they are both wonderful. Brook D’Orsay is a popular Hallmark actress and I love every movie she is in. She’s wonderful and lights up the screen.

This is Gilles Marini’s first venture into a Hallmark movie and I think he was wonderful. I’d listen to him talk all day long.

The Bottom Line

Spoiler Alert – I’m about to name the killer…

I was super entertained by this mystery. It kept me on my toes, and I kept switching who I thought was the killer! I did not see coming that it was the designer! I’m super excited that it looks like we will get more of these movies! I thought the chemistry between the two leads was great!! I can’t wait to hear what you think about this mystery!

Hot Takes!

Here’s a quick look at what the Deck The Hallmark Podcast Fellas thought about “Crimes of Fashion: Killer Clutch”:

  • Bran – “This was a solid outing. I thought all of the performances were very stellar. All the little details were good. My biggest complaint was it was hard to understand the thick accents. The person who did it, I didn’t see that coming. I thought that the story that they told made sense and was beliveable. Solid Mystery.”
  • Brian – “This movie had a lot more action than I was expecting. I didn’t see the killer coming either, that was a mystery. It was interesting. I had a fun time. The accents were hard to understand. This was a really good effort.”
  • Dan – “I tend to look at these against all the other mysteries, like would I want to see more of these characters. I also did not see the murderer coming, but you could have. I don’t really need another one of these, I don’t need to see more of these. Brooke was great. She’s amazing in this movie. The relationship between the two leads does not do anything for me.”

Location, Location, Location

This movie is set in Paris, though it was mostly filmed in Budapest. They did film some of the scenes in front of the Paris landmarks though! I adore Paris and honestly Budapest looks wonderful as well! I loved seeing the Pont Alexandre III bridge and the Arc de Triomphe all lit up at night. They are both truly sights to behold. If you get the chance to go see them in person, go immediately. It’s such a beautiful city.

Fun Movie Fact:

The lead detective in the movie, Andre Dubreiul, is played by Gilles Marini, and has been in several shows including “Brothers and Sisters” and “Switched at Birth.” But the way we all might know him a little more… ahem… famously… is that he played Dante, Samantha and Smith’s next-door neighbor in Los Angeles, in the first Sex and The City movie in 2008. You know who he is. Wink Wink Wink.

This was a fun movie! I enjoyed it a lot, and as always, a good mystery is hard to beat! I can’t wait to see if they get to do more of this series. Brooke D’Orsay and Gilles Marini were wonderful together and had lots of chemistry. Plus, there’s the added bonus of more of the city of Paris along the way! I’m excited! Let me know what you think of the movie! Until then… Happy Hallmarking!
